#1 Having a Content Ideation Flywheel

Troy uses a simple method to never run out of content ideas.

1. Find a topic you’re experienced in.

2. Break it into subtopics.

3. Turn subtopics into personal stories.

4. Leverage different content formats like plain text, carousels, video, etc.

That way, a single topic can turn into 150 ideas:

1 topic x 5 subtopics x 10 personal stories x 3 content formats = 150 posts.

Let’s look at Troy’s case as an example. His main topic is prospecting, with the subtopics:

  • cold calling
  • cold emailing
  • videos in prospecting
  • LinkedIn prospecting

With those four subtopics, he can:

  • Write a text post about a time he used cold calling to bring in a six-figure lead.
  • Create a video showing his last LinkedIn prospecting win, or
  • Post a screenshot of an email outreach that crushed.

#2 Creating winning posts: “How to” vs. “How I”

99% of people on LinkedIn write boring posts like:

"How to do [ blank ].”

This format is not only impersonal but the feed is also flooded with these. The fastest way to stand out is to flip it. Change it to:

“How I did [ blank ].

Why it works: The “How I” format instantly establishes credibility, invokes personal stories and makes your content more engaging.

Or, in Troy’s words:

“It's really just: Did I book a meeting this week? Did I have a win this week? Let me share exactly what I did to get that win or to book that meeting. That's my content creation strategy.”

#3 Recycling Content

Once you've been consistent for a few months, you can recycle old content that performed well.

Why?

You’ve gained new followers over time and those new followers were not around when you posted it. Even your old followers likely missed that great post or forgot about it. And if we’re being honest, no one remembers a LinkedIn post from three or four months ago.

#4 Building a writing habit

Monday through Friday, Troy sits down every morning and writes his two posts for the day. That’s it.

#5 What it takes to build a founder-brand

To win on LinkedIn, it takes more than pushing posts out. Engaging and building authentic relationships is key. This means:

  • Commenting on the posts of your prospects.
  • DMing back and forth to build real relationships.

The harsh truth is that if you want your business impact to be bigger, be ready to spend more time on LinkedIn. As Troy puts it.
